Honoring the 'Greatest Generation'
Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 09:14AM The 2nd annual Lone Star Honor flight was held this week as WWII and Korean War veterans trekked from Conroe, TX to Washington, DC to visit the respective war memorials erected in honor of their heroism and sacrifice. Kevin came out to honor these heroes on the eve of their journey. The Montgomery County News reports:
Among those seeing the veterans off was Congressman Kevin Brady, who participated in the first trip last year.
Brady talked with as many of the vets as possible before the boarded buses, and a few of the onlookers too.
“I just met a veteran who hasn’t been to Washington since the 1940’s,” Brady said. “I met the daughter of Rosie the Riveter – the real Rosie the Riveter.”
The congressman was impressed with the veterans and the students involved.
“We’ve got a generation of heroes we’re honoring, but we’ve got a younger generation eager to honor them,” he said. “That’s a pretty powerful combination.”
